The F/A-51 is a multi-role, Carrier or Land based fighter devleoped by Winter Tactical Systems an Osean Military Manufacturer that is the main rival to the Aurelian Based Chimera Technolgies Limted. Both are rather small companies in comparison to companies like Grunder Industries and the Yuktobanian State ran arsenals.

Overview

The F/A-51 is comparable to the Mirage 2000-5 in many respects. including mobility and speed. The plane is an original design in comparison to the F-16G ALFP. The Kilij as its been named by the manufactuer after the sword known to be used in brutal close combat, is designed specifically for multi-role use. The F/A-51 was designed to replace a number of A-4 Skyhawk II attack planes that have outlived their use in combat, the OMDF in 2008 released parameters for a "small, medium range attack aircraft capable of a multirole mission to replace the Skyhawk II in service." with that The YF-51 was developed and in 2011 the early production F/A-51 was undergoing a final test and ajustment phase. Pilot Captain Largo "Yeoman" Sheffield was placed in the first F/A-51, Sheffield an ex. A-4 pilot was hand picked to lead the flight/combat testing. Captain Jack Bartlett volunteered as a chase plane pilot flying his F-14A.

The one main notable point of the F/A-51 was the F/A-18 like nose and cockpit, which like the F/A-18E was a mix of all-glass and touch-screen displays. another selling point was its ability to mount just about any weapon in the OMDF arsenal like the F/A-18 could. another big bonus for those in the Osean Navy. Winter unlike Chimera Ltd. went with a twin engine design, using a pair of small afterburning turbofans, unlike going with one large Afterburning turbofan. the OMDF liked reduancy in their planes and didnt want to stray from the concept of twin engines. The Winter Tactical Systems HETF 125 (High Efficiency Turbo Fan) produced 11,500 lbs of thrust each, 23,000 lbs of thrust combined, more than enough to propel the medium weight fighter to speeds in excess of mach 2. Radar systems installed allow the plane to engage up to three to four enemies at once and enabled use of AIM-120 AAMRAAM missiles.

Combat Use/Variants

The F/A-51 has not seen any combat as of 2012, since the settlement of the Cirum-Pacific War in 2010 combat and patrol operations by the Osean military have laxed back to pre-war status. The OMDF has however been conducting combat exercises within thier borders and in international waters, the F/A-51A has participated in these exercises as well as daily patrols from the CVN-98 OFS Rooivalk (Afrikaans for Red Kestrel). So far the Kilij's production has reached about 100 since 2011. The Aircraft is expected to have two variants the B model which is a two-seat version geared towards close support and the E/A-51C a proposed electronic warfare variant is rumored in the works and so far the two seat B model has only one prototype of it produced.
