| The original M4 design has been modified several times, especially the firing system. The M4 is currently issued a gas piston, because the HK 416's gas piston was found to much better than the M4's original direct inpingment system, so they replaced it. However, unlike the HK 416, the M4 wasn't designed to accommodate a gas piston, therefore the weapon has to be torn down if it jams.
